Jim Lane: A proven security professional with over four decades of experience

During his 32-year enlistment as a Massachusetts State Police Officer, Jim’s investigative experiences encompassed accidents, bank robberies, and multiple murders. His first hand experience and high honors education at Boston College and Boston University honed his keen analytical skills. He spent the last 15 years of his police career assigned to the Bureau of Investigative Services where he supervised and/or investigated nearly every type of major crime that can be committed, including over 150 homicides.

Along the way, as the commander of the State Police Racing Commission Unit, Jim was tasked with overseeing the operation of all horse and dog racing facilities in Massachusetts. His unit safeguarded the patrons, employees and animals at each track with a goal of enhancing the credibility of the industry and the protection of the consumer. During a six-year tenure as commanding officer of the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office State Police Investigative Unit, he supervised and conducted investigations of every major crime that happened in that county, the largest in New England. Working closely with prosecutors, he developed an expertise in case preparation and presentation. His philosophy on investigative reports was,” if someone picks up this report in 10 years, will he/she be able to have a complete understanding of what you investigated.” His unit never experienced a “not guilty.” His report writing was clear, credible, precise, inclusive, accurate, and thoroughly fair; in fact, his reports were often lauded by defense attorneys and assistant DA’s.

In the private sector, Jim developed an entirely different expertise, in security functions. Working for an international defense company, he attained the highest security clearances granted by the US Government and was entrusted with the safeguarding of classified materials and information that were vital to the safety of the US and the US War fighter. Jim also advanced his experience to become the company’s lead in executive security, event security planning, high profile foreign customers safety while visiting the US, and internal investigations. Jim also managed the uniform guard detachment assigned to corporate headquarters and chaired a key committee charged with the development of a background investigation process for all new hire, legacy, and non-employees. He benchmarked existing programs, wrote policy, defined adjudication standards and established hiring specifications for background managers throughout the international company he worked for. He also served on a national team made up of a variety of industries sharing experiences and furthering their efforts to protect their employees.

Corporate America tapped many of Jim’s skills including his innate investigative talents. He spent 10 years conducting investigations involving the many facets of industrial malfeasance. Weather it was employee fraud or thefts, work place violence, larceny of wages, violation of government rules and regulations, or external threats to the company’s and/or its employees physical or financial well being, Jim was relied upon to lead the investigations.
